Conventional Water Treatments:
The most favorable water softening is through the ion exchange process. A synthetic plastic polymer in the form of small beads is densely packed to form an ion exchange resin. These porous resins contain billion of active ions. When the hard water containing primary minerals like calcium and magnesium flows through the resin it holds the impurities. However, hard water also consists of secondary particles of iron, manganese, and aluminum.
Sodium ions are forced into the resin bed that starts the ion exchange process. These resin beds produce safe water after de-mineralizing it.
Softening via Equipment:
Water softening equipment has two tanks a larger one has sodium and another tank for ion exchange process. A control valve at the top is fixed to enhance water flow as gallons of water are processed through it.
The regeneration cycle begins where water flows through the valve to the tank via resin later to the collector. The water passing through resin bed holds impurities making water usable.

A water softener starts around $500 and goes to $1500 for household purpose. It depends on capacity and quality (levels of purification).
